The Alexander Gerschenkron Prize is awarded for the best dissertation in the economic history of an area outside of the United States or Canada completed during the preceding year. The 2017 prize will be awarded at the Economic History Association’s annual meeting in San Jose, California in September 2017. o be considered for these prizes, completed dissertations must be submitted by email (more information).

Since the publishing of "Measures and Men" by Witold Kula in 1970, the history of measures became, due to its own merits, a discipline in itself (historical metrology), changing forever its status as a mere auxiliary science. Therefore, this panel welcomes proposals that are connected, whether directly or indirectly, with the study of measurement before the Metric System, basically, from the perspectives of Social History, Economics and Land Surveying in rural areas.
